Hi, I’m Lynne…

My first introduction to pets was as young as I could remember at my paternal grandparents’ farm in Leesburg, NJ.  I loved being there. The chickens were long gone by the time I born but I remember their collies every visit.

Grandpa, Betsy & Me–1972

My childhood comprised of canine companions. Thor, the Saint Bernard, had a head bigger than a bowling ball and I couldn’t touch him without being saturated in drool. He was the gentlest of my childhood fur-friends. There were others, George, Bear, Scruffy… all glorious mutts. They all had their special, unique personalities.

The first pets I took care of were chickens. I was their chief-caretaker growing up. They were mail-order, hatched at home under a heat lamp. It was amazing seeing them peck their way out from their shells. Once the hatchlings were ready, they took up residence in the little red shack out back… complete with a fenced-in yard.

Learning respect from nature and resilience…

The first time I witnessed a chicken laying an egg… it scared the hell out of me. Imagine being completely ignorant of the birthing process and walking in on convulsing chicken… heavy breathing and fluffed out feathers. Horrifying. When the episode was over, the hen got up and walked off like nothing happened… and behold… an egg-offering was left for me to take back to mother for breakfast. Feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs were easy.

Getting past Old Red, the large, plump, red-feathered, territorial rooster…

Over the years, both canine and feline pets have come and gone. My feline-friends Chappelle and Velma keep me company nowadays.

I’ve served fifteen years in the veterinary industry as a veterinary assistant. What I love most about it is building relationships and making a difference in the lives of others… and I learn something new every day.

I totally enjoy writing. I can’t see a life or vocation without writing. I absolutely love building a career combining love of animals and writing.

I enjoy time with family and pets (of course…), sci-fi, reading, writing, philosophy, journaling, researching hidden knowledge, home décor/home improvement/DIY, apartment living, painting, etc.

For the past 23 years, I’ve lived in Maryland. My extensive travels have taken me as far west in the U.S. as Nevada. I’ve enjoyed visiting Canada and travelling overseas as well… Norway, Sweden, Germany, Scotland, Austria, Finland, (region formerly known as) Czechoslovakia, and Poland.
